Basic Values; If you don’t stand for something you will fall for anything.
Posted by: Wayne in WatercoolerFirst I digress, Happy 4th of July!
Yesterday Christain Conservative adopt statement of common goals, Unify behind McCain and almost a month ago Some Things Just Need to be said did the same. Many years ago Abraham Lincoln did the same:
“The Creed of Abraham Lincoln in His Own Words:”
“I believe in God, the Almighty Ruler of Nations, our great and good and merciful Maker, our Father in heaven, who notes the fall of a sparrow, and numbers the hairs of our heads.
I believe in His eternal truth and justice.
I recognize the sublime truth announced in the Holy Scriptures and proven by all history that those nations only are blest whose God is the Lord.
I believe that it is the duty of nations as well as of men to own their dependence upon the overruling power of God, and to invoke the influence of His Holy Spirit; to confess their sins and transgressions in humble sorrow, yet with assured hope that genuine repentance will lead to mercy and pardon.
I believe that it is meet and right to recognize and confess the presence of the Almighty Father equally in our triumphs and in those sorrows which we may justly fear are a punishment inflicted upon us for our presumptuous sins to the needful end of our reformation.
I believe that the Bible is the best gift which God has ever given to men. All the good from the Saviour of the world is communicated to us through this book.
I believe the will of God prevails. Without Him all human reliance is vain. Without the assistance of His divine Being, I cannot succeed. With that assistance I cannot fail.
Being a humble instrument in the hands of our Heavenly Father, I desire that all my works and acts may be according to His will; and that it may be so, I give thanks to the Almighty, and seek His aid.
I have a solemn oath registered in heaven to finish the work I am in, in full view of my responsibility to my God, with malice toward none; with charity for all; with firmness in the right as God gives me to see the right. Commending those who love me to His care, as I hope in their prayers they will comend me, I look through the help of God to a joyous meeting with many loved ones gone before.”
All great leaders have a strong creed, I wish McCain would write one.
A few core values of mine (related to issues today) that I realize some would call me names for having, bigot, racist, hater …
I believe marriage is defined not by the courts but by creation, God; and is between a man and a woman. Marriage is not an act of selfishness for the enjoyment of the adults but a commitment which begins a family.
I believe people were created with liberties and a nation that respects those liberties will be blessed in may ways. People in a society will make mistakes if they have the liberty to do so, and they should be allowed if it is not harmful to anybody else.
I believe in the principle of a severn [sic] citizen: (misspelled because the concept seems to have been forgotten).
I believe in free trade, although I accept that the government needs to regulate international trade across the border. Free trade always results in the best value to the consumer, but other nations may exploit our nation so regulation is required. [free trade in a nation of sovereign citizens means anybody can become involved in the trade of a product ... today we don't have free trade in energy commodities]
Taxes should be 10% (same as the church) and the government is under God … Romans 13.
I believe the Government is separate from the sovereign institutions of religion and the family … these are independent institutions nether families or churches should be denied access to public property. The only job for the Government in these institutions is to insure that the laws passed with the consent of the people via their representatives are uniform across all citizens.
I believe in the right to bar arms.
I believe in the right of 2/3 of the people to rise up and vote and change the laws and that rejecting the right of people to overthrow bad laws, judges or kick out bad representatives is temping a entirely different form of change with is harmful to society.
I believe in the right of the unborn to life.
I believe it is the obligation of the US government and main reason for its necessity that it govern the border (implied is deny access of none citizens when required, stop invading armies, if the government is not to do something on the border it is not to do it anyplace within the border) and do so as desired by the citizens of the nation.
There is more that could be said. Let me close with the Government should be of the people, by the people, ruled by the people, controlled by the people, a servant of the people.
